Project Elmo

So our big project for the month of January was to get Clara Jo's new room decorated and ready. She was getting her eviction notice out of her nursery and her crib. We wanted to have her moved and transitioned a good couple of months before the arrival of little sister. We decided to go with the Sesame Street theme since she is quite the Elmo fan and has been for several months.

The first step was the painting. Eric and Mama Jo headed up this part since they didn't want Clara Jo nor I (in my pregnant state) to be around a lot of the paint fumes. So the once plain, tan guest room was getting a makeover of pale yellow on top and green on the bottom! They worked on it a whole day and it looked snazzy!

A few days after the painting, Mama Jo and I put on the vinyl border all the way around the rooom. It was a little nerve wracking trying to get it straight and such, but afterwards, we were pretty proud of ourselves. Notice how darling the border is! Clara loves naming all the characters!

A day or two after that, my sister Sonya was in town for one night. We took advantage of her being here, and she helped us put on vinyl clings of the different Sesame Street characters to go above the border on one wall. We also purchased a jumbo size one of Elmo since he is Clara's most favorite character!

With the vinyl characters came little stickers that went along with each character. While we put some of those up, there were a lot of little stickers that we didn't use. So Clara Jo came in and did a little deocrating of her own. She loved putting the stickers where she thought they should go. Her concentration on this was pretty amusing to watch!

After that, we purchased some furniture odds and ends to go in her room including her new twin bed. After asking many moms' opinions, we skipped the toddler bed and went straight for the twin. We have a rail on the side that keeps her in! Here are a few pictures of the remodeled room.

Clara's first night in her new room and bed was just over a week ago! She took it all like a champ. The first few nights she seemed a little confused and lost, but after a few days...it seemed liked she felt right at home. She will go to bed and stay in her bed all night. She has tried to escape a time or two during her naps. However, after being told to get back in bed and to stay there....she doesn't try to escape anymore. Here is a cute picture of our little one in her big bed!

This past weekend, Clara Jo had some special visitors come to see her new room. Grandma and Grandpa Young and Aunt Kris came and gave a thumbs up on Clara's new place!

Wow... that was quite the project. We had a lot of help and were really pleased with how it turned out! Lets hope Clara Jo's love for Elmo and Sesame Street is more than just a passing phase!

Valentines

We had a pretty low key Valentines Day! Since we have spent some money lately on home projects and such, we decided no big gifts were needed. We went out to dinner.... to Macaroni Grill which is tradition for us to go to on the day of love. I got some lovely flowers and Eric got a deck of cards that had a reason on each of them why we love him.Even Clara Jo got a loving gift! All in all....the love was felt around here.
